Soccer Mystics defeat Chargers 2-0
Aiden Whelan and Andrew Omojuwa both scored in the Mystics 2-0 win over the visiting Crandall Chargers Sunday afternoon in Halifax.
The Mystics men's soccer team came out looking for a win to start the first half. Aiden Whelan had the first scoring opportunity for the Msytics, but Chargers keeper Evan Couturier made the point-blank save. Cooper McVicar-Smith had a chance early on for the Mount, but Couturier handled that shot as well.
Andrew Omojuwa had a great opporuntity not long after, but sent his shot from just outside the 18 yard box over the crossbar.
The Mount continued to press and Omojuwa's second shot found the back of the net on a beautiful cross from Alex Bellefontaine to put the Msytics up 1-0 after 21 minutes of play.
Just under a minute later, the Mystics found themselves with a two-goal lead after Whelan scored off a free kick put in play by Jacob Heroux.
The Mystics and Chargers each had a couple of chances but the scored remianed 2-0 heading into half time.
The Chargers showed a renewd sense of energy to start the second half, but the Msytics worked the ball around on both sides of the field trying to control the pace and proctec their 2-0 lead.
Crandall had two chances midway through the second with a frenzied attack in front of the Mystics net, but keeper Tristan Brocklehurst came up big to prevent them from scoring.
The Chargers had a few more opportunities on shots from Chin Kim and Jacob Agbor but both came up empty.
With four minutes added after 90 minutes of play, Ibrahima Diane made one last attempt to put the Chargers on the scoreboard, but Brocklehurst was able to make the save.
The Mystics improved to 1-2-1 with their 2-0 win and will head to Truro to take on the DAL AC Rams next Saturday before returning home to host Holland on Sunday, September 22.
