Seawolves defeat Mystics 2-0
The UNBSJ Seawolves defeated the host MSVU Mystics 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Bedford, N.S.
The SJ Seawolves controlled much of the play in the first half with Connor Sikasak getting a chance early on, but Mystics defernder Nick Bryden booted the ball away from the net.
A foul on MSVU inside the box gave the Seawolves a penalty kick. Mystics keeper Tristan Brocklehurst made an outstanding diving save on Sikasak's shot, but the play was called back after Brocklehurst was called for forward movement before the shot. Sikasak didn't miss his second attempt, giving the Seawolves a 1-0 lead after just six minutes of play. Sikasak scored his second of the game 20 minutes later off a beautiful cross from John Suh to go up 1-0, which is where the score would stay after 45 minutes of play.
Both teams came into the second half with an aggressive and chippy style of play, resulting in multiple fouls being called on both teams including UNBSJ's Ryan Benner who earned his second yellow card of the game in the 55th minute and an ensuing red to give the Mystics a man advantage for the rest of the match.
Bryden had a great look from a distance, but sent his shot over the net and Andrew Omojuwa had a chance of his own in front of the Seawolves net, but was turned away by keeper Mike Rataich.
UNBSJ responded with a chance of their own when Malek Karoui took two shots in front of the net, but both deflected off the Mystics defenders.
Cooper McVicar-Smith led a charge up the field for the Mystics, but Rataich stepped in to end the advance. Aiden Whelan got the ball in close a short time later, but was stopped Rataich.
McVicar-Smith sent a nice ball across from the right wing to Whelan in front of the net, but Rataich once again interrupted the play.
Brocklehurst made another great diving save preventing Sikasak from scoring a third goal midway through the second half.
The Mystics continued to press in the latter part of the half, highlighted by a sharp shot from Muhammed Hammo, but Rataich made the save.
Both teams traded scoring chances in extra time, but were unsuccessful and the game would end 2-0 in favour of the Seawolves.
The Mystics drop to 6th place with a 2-4-2 record, while UNBSJ sits in third at 4-3-1.
Both teams are back inaction next Saturday with UNBSJ playing host to DAL AC and the Mystics travel to Truro to take on the DAL AC Rams.
