2024 Men's Soccer Season Preview
The men's soccer team is looking to improve upon their silver medal finish at last year's conference championship.
The 2024 season is about to begin for the Mystics men's soccer team and they're hungry for gold.
Despite a slow start and finishing with a 5-7 record at the end of regular season play last year, the Mystics rose from underdog status to knock off the number one-seeded seeded St. Thomas Tommies in semifinal action to advance to the final at the conference championship. They went on to earn a silver medal after losing to King's in penalty kicks.
Nick Bryden returns for his fifth season to lead the the charge for the Mystics. An ACAA first team all0star last season, Bryden started in all 11 regular season games for the Mystics and will play an essential role in the team's success. Fellow defenders Noah Jordan, an ACAA second team all-star returns for his fourth season and second year Muhammed Hammo will also be important pieces to keeping the opposing teams' strikers at bay.
Freshman goalkeeper Tristan Brocklehurst returns for his second season after an impressive first year with the Mystics. He had a .860 save percentage and posted two shutouts in regular season play last year.
With last year's leading scorer Michael Cyr not be in the lineup this season, third-year head coach Ioan Florean expects to see a number of different players finding the back of the net this year.
The action starts this weekend with the Mystics heading to New Brunswick to take on UNBSJ and St. Thomas before returning to Halifax for their home opener Wednesday, September 11 at 6:00pm on Mainland Common.
