The UNB Saint John Seawolves showed heart and determination in their matchup against the MSVU Mystics, battling through a tough first half to find their rhythm in the later quarters. Despite the 84-55 final score, the Seawolves had several bright spots, including a strong third quarter where they outscored MSVU 17-16 and shot their best percentage of the game.
Amanda Pearcey led the Mystics in scoring with a game-high 27 points and added six rebounds and two assists. Marley Curwin had 11 points of her own, along with nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Bailey Henderson was a force on the boards, grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with 8 points, 4 assists, and a block, making an impact on both ends of the floor. Jenny Cripps displayed her signature hustle, facilitating the offense by hitting a buzzer beater while also contributing defensively with a steal and five forced turnovers. Maddy Kline provided smart playmaking and energy, showing why she was missed on the court this year due to her injury, helping keep the Seawolves engaged against a tough opponent. Ava Smith brought grit and defensive presence, working hard on the glass and making key contributions throughout her minutes.
The Seawolves' depth was a major factor, with the bench outscoring MSVU's reserves 37-24. Maddie Baker led the charge with 10 points, while Laura Prekaj knocked down both of her three-point attempts to add 6. The team also showed flashes of strong defensive play, forcing 15 turnovers and racking up 7 steals.
Though MSVU jumped out to an early lead, UNBSJ never backed down, improving their shooting efficiency as the game went on. Their resilience and ability to make in-game adjustments will serve them well as they look ahead to their next challenge.
The Mystics improve to 14-3 with one weekend of regular season action to go.
