Mystics defeat King's 2-0
Lauren Seamone and Beth Padfield both scored to lead the Mystics to a 2-0 victory over the University of King's College Blue Devils Wednesday evening in Halifax.
The MSVU Mystics got their first win of the season, defeating the University if King's College Blue Devils 2-0 in their regular season home opener Wednesday night at Mainland Commons.
The Mystics controlled the play for most of the first half, keeping UKC goalkeeper Ainslie Nicholl-Penman busy turning away a flurry of activity. Lauren Seamone opened the scoring in the 26th minute notching her first goal of the season to put the Mystics up 1-0.
King's worked hard to keep the Mystics shooters at bay while Nicholl-Penman turned away seven shots on net during the first period, limiting the Mystics lead to just one heading into halftime.
MSVU continued to press in the second half and added their second goal of the game, this time from Beth Padfield, to go up 2-1 after 52 minutes of play.
Nicholl-Penman stayed sharp for the Blue Devils, making save after save to keep them in the match including batting away a beautiful shot from Leah Mombourquette that was sailing toward the top right corner midway through the second.
After 90 minutes of play, the Msytics came out on top, winning 2-0 to improve to 1-0-2. King's drops to 1-0-1.
The Mystics are back in action hosting hosting the Crandall Chargers Sunday, September 15 at 1:00pm on Mainland Commons.
