Mystics remain undefeated with 1-0 win over UNBSJ
Emma Bowser scored the lone goal in the Mystics 1-0 victory over the UNBSJ Seawolves Saturday afternoon in Bedford.
The Mystics won their second game of the weekend with a 1-0 win over the UNBSJ Seawolves.
Sacha Clark had the first scoring chance in the first minute of play, but Seawolves keeper Casey Grant Spin made the save.
A short while later, the Mystics were called for a handball just outside the 18 yard box, giving UNBSJ striker Joce Splitgerber a good look kneeing the ball past MSVU keeper Morgan Gillis, but the goal was not allowed as the Seawolves were called offside.
MSVU had great chances throughout the first 20 minutes of the first half with Clark, Lauren Seamone, Annabelle Lendrum-Harnish and Mhyah Allen all getting great looks, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Splitgerber also had a great opportunity early on, getting the ball in close to the Mystics net, but Gillis made the save.
Seamone had another scoring chance on a free kick just inside centre that sailed over the net. Allen was sent to the net on a couple of plays, but she was unable to convert.
The Seawolves put a lot of pressure on the Mystics late in the half looking to score a goal but they came up empty and the score remained 0-0 after 45 minutes of play.
The Mystics came into the second half with a renewed sense of energy, taking control of the ball, working it up the field with some precise passing from Leah Mombourquette, Allen and Maria Antle. They combined for some great opportunities, but could not find the back of the net.
The Seawolves responded with chances of their own including a great look for Scarlette McDonald and Splitgerber, but Gillis was able to make the saves.
In the 80th minute, Emma Bowser took advantage of a misplayed ball out in front of the Seawolves net to score and give the Mystics a 1-0 lead with 15 minutes left to play.
UNBSJ pressed, but were unable to make anything happen giving the Mystics the win.
With the win, the Mystics improve to 5-0-3 and a first in the standings. UNBSJ falls to fourth with a 3-2-3 record.
Both teams are back in action next Saturday with UNBSJ playing host to DAL AC, while MSVU heads to Moncton to take on the Crandall Chargers.
